Double Drabble: On Two Wheels

Title: On Two Wheels
Author: badly_knitted
Characters: Ianto, Jack.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 490: Signal at tw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: Ianto decides it’s time Jack learned to ride a bike.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: This one’s a double drabble.

“I can’t believe you never learned to ride a bike!” Ianto laughed.

“It didn’t seem important. I went straight from one kind of horsepower to another; driving cars. Even back in the early twentieth century Torchwood was very progressive.” Jack sounded a bit defensive.

“Well, it’s about time you learned. It’s really very easy once you find your balance.”

Jack quickly got the hang of pedalling around Torchwood’s underground garage, so Ianto decided to take him out on the streets, choosing a quiet suburban area with very little traffic.

“Ready?”

“I suppose so, but… where are the indicators? You know, for when I want to change direction.”

“They’re on the ends of your arms.”

“Huh?”

“Cyclists use hand signals, Jack. Even you must have noticed that at some point. If you’re turning right, check for traffic, stick your right arm out, and cycle to the centre of the road before turning. If you’re going left, stick your left arm out.”

“Oh. Okay.” Jack mounted his bike, pushed off, and cycled along the street, almost immediately heading down his first hill.

“Ianto! What’s the signal for ‘I can’t stop’?” he yelled.

Ianto rolled his eyes. “That’s what the brakes are for!”

Hahaha poor Jack, his 51st advanced DNA won't help this time.
I ride my bike everywhere as I can no longer drive and I live in a very environment-friendly little town so most people ride bikes around here.
However, Jack could not have asked for a better teacher, his Ianto would teach all the little things he needs, at least when he stops laughing...
I got my bike repaired last year. I use it occasionally when I'm able to go out, but I can't carry much on it.

Ianto will be an excellent teacher.

Thank you!
Ianto knows just how to handle Jack. Heben't ridden BIKE SINCE MY SCHOOLDAYS WHEN SOMEONE plAYED A TRICK, LOOSENED THE HANDLEBARS.i HAD A NASTY FALL AND LOST MY NERVE. nEVR DROVE, i USE MY SCOOTER NOW. jACK WII HAVE FUN. i DO REMEMBER i ENJOYED IY. HE WILL TOO.
I'm sure he will. =)

I've fallen off a few times, crashed into the back of a car once, and had several cars pull out in front of me over the years, but I still like cycling, as long as it's on flat ground or downhill. Not fond of trying to get UP hills, lol. I get off and walk.
I understand how Jack is feeing, I only learned to ride a bike in my 30s and only because I wanted to learn to ride a motorbike
It's never too late to learn!

Thank you!

Poor Jack. Being on an out of control bike isn't fun. I didn't learn to ride until I was eleven and it was a very painful process with lots of stacking. My first bike had a back pedal brake and I still can't get used to braking with hand brakes, though I haven't ridden for years. I freak out when I backpedal to stop and the gears just spin around.

I've never used a backpedal brake, but I had stabilisers until I was ten.

Jack will learn quickly.

Thank you!
