FAKE Double Drabble :Dangerous Job

Title: Dangerous Job
Author: badly_knitted
Characters: Dee, Ryo.
Rating: PG
Setting: After the manga.
Summary: Both Dee and Ryo know that being a cop is a dangerous job.
Written Using: The tw100 prompt Ouch.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: 250 words, a double drabble and a half.

Dee had been under no illusions when he’d decided to become a cop. There were far safer careers to choose, and yet despite the many dangers involved, he’d never regretted the path he’d taken.

There were aspects of the job he didn’t enjoy much, mostly paperwork, and testifying in court, but getting out on the street and tracking down the bad guys, seeing that they paid for their crimes… That was something worth doing. Being a cop was much more than just a job to him, it was his true vocation, and no matter how many times he got injured in the line of duty, that was never going to change. Call it an occupational hazard; when it came right down to it, every career had its downsides.

Dee knew Ryo felt the same, but there were times, like right now, when there was little consolation in that knowledge.

Ryo winced. “Ouch! That smarts!”

“Yeah, big surprise there.” Dee was trying his best not to appear too worried, but it wasn’t easy. “Put your hand here and keep pressure on it. I don’t think the wound is all that deep, but no sense taking chances.”

The ambulance would arrive soon, and then Ryo would be whisked away to the hospital to be patched up. Just another incident of a perp resisting arrest, but the stupid jerk had knifed Dee’s partner. Dee would rather he’d been the one to get stabbed. Anything to spare Ryo the pain, and himself the worry.

The End

Comments

It's always easier to be in pain yourself than to see someone you care about hurting.

I like the lead in this and Dee's thoughts about the risks of his job.
Thank you! I almost never know what will happen when I start writing, the characters just seem to guide me. It can be quite a surprise to see what direction an opening sentence can lead.
Aw. Ryo's tough, though!
He is, and it's not a serious injury so he'll be fine once he's patched up. Dee can't help worrying though.

Thank you.
