Drabble: Safe Harbour

Title: Safe Harbour

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Ianto, Jack

Rating: G

Written For: DarqueQueen7, for leaving the 300th review on my ff.net drabble collection. I hope this is what you wanted!

Spoilers: None at all.

Summary: Sometimes Ianto feels adrift, but Jack is there for him.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

Leaning on the railings, Ianto stared across the bay, wind ruffling his hair.

He shivered. Sometimes he felt like one of those boats out on the water, tossed relentlessly by storms, adrift, going where he was driven with no will of his own. It scared him. His life revolved around Torchwood and sometimes he wasn’t sure who he was anymore.

Warm, strong arms enveloped him from behind; soft lips brushed his cheek.

He closed his eyes and sighed, leaning into the embrace, anchored once more in the safe harbour that was Jack, knowing whatever happened, he wouldn’t face it alone.

The End

I really like this drabble. Everyone feels sometimes like that, it is nice to know that Ianto has someone who has his back, especially with what is going on when one works for TW. As well, I love that, without having write one word about it, for us readers it is implied - we know - that it works the other way around, too.

Plus, I like the picture you created with using the ocean, adrift boats and all that.

Great new drabble! :)
I had a great prompt to work with from my friend DarqueQueen7 - she says it's exactly what she wanted and I'm rather pleased with it too.

I think Jack and Ianto are always there to support each other when things get too much and they feel adrift - they're each other's anchor, a port in the storm where they can feel safe and they both need that.

Glad you liked it, it was a joy to write.

Thank you!
This was so heart warming and beautiful.
Thank you, glad you like it!
Aww so sweet.
Thank you!

I had a good prompt to work with.
Gorgeous! I love how it shows how much Ianto and Jack lean on each other.
Thank you.

Yes, they're always there for each other.
this is just too_beautiful! And Ianto deserves to have that anchor in Jack because I am sure that Ianto is Jack's lighthouse!
Awesome!
What a lovely way of putting it! I'm sure you're right, Ianto is the light that shines through the darkest of Jack's nights, a ray of hope on the horizon.

Thank you.
Your drabbles are always great, but this one is above the average. Wow ! I'm all shaken. So much emotion in so few words. I love it !
*hugs* Thank you so much! I was really inspired by the prompt I was given for this one, I'm glad you like it, I think it turned out rather well. I had a lot more time to work on it because there wasn't a time limit like there is on the weekly prompts.
That was just wonderful. So emotional and beautiful and I don't have enough adjectives to describe it.
Thank you *hugs*

I think this one benefitted from not having a deadline, lol! I was able to fine-tune it over a period of a few weeks, a luxury I'm not usually afforded because of having to post drabbles before the next prompt is announced.

(I took part in a meme thing while you were offline, writing missing scenes, alternate endings etc on amy of my fics, so if you have a request, I'd welcome it. Meme is here -

I only got three requests, which I've written but not posted yet. Stil looking for more to get mre writing again.)
I'll take a look when I get the chance and see what I might come up with. :)
YAY! No rush, but all requests are more than welcome.

I'm just trying to get my muse working steadily. I have a few new fics to post, but I'm spacing them out one a week to give myself time for more writing and drabbling, otherwise I'll be spending all my time posting, cross-posting and replying to comments!
Very powerful! I loved the boat imagery in this. The analogies fit Ianto's life quite well and I'm glad he's found safe harbor in Jack's arms. <3<3

edited because I posted in the wrong place the first time. Ten years in LJ you'd think I know how to work it by now!
I've been around 5 years and I still do that sometimes too, lol!

Thank you, I had a very good and detailed prompt to work from and plenty of time to fine-tune it - so nice not to have to rush to get it posted before a deadline!

Glad you liked it!
this is really beautiful!
Thank you, I'm quite pleased with it!
Lovely <3
Thank you, glad you liked it! =)
Perfect.
Thank you so much! =D
Aww this is lovely :-)
Thanks, I'm rather pleased with this one. It mad a change, being able to take my time ober a drabble.
what are the most reassuring arms of the universe.
Jack's, obviously. He makes Ianto feel safe, and Ianto does the same for Jack.
