This was the life, Dee decided, drawing a deep breath before diving beneath the surface once more, following Ryo’s flippers down beneath the surface of the crystal clear water to explore the wonders of the ocean floor.
The sea was only ten or twelve feet deep here and as still and smooth as glass, the sun high overhead filtering through the impossibly blue water strongly enough to illuminate everything; visibility couldn’t have been better. It was a bit like being in one of those nature documentaries narrated by that British guy, David something or other. Dee could almost imagine he’d simply dived through the TV screen to get here.
Colourful little fish swam around him, doing whatever it was fish did, while starfish, crabs, and other weird creatures wandered about on the fine white sand as comfortably as he would stroll about on land.
With a strong kick of his flippers, Dee soared back towards the surface, almost wishing he had gills and could breathe underwater.
Ryo popped up like a cork a few feet away, sweeping wet hair off his face. “This is great, but I wish I could stay down longer.”
“Maybe we should learn to scuba dive.”
