FAKE Double Drabble: Ruined

Title: Ruined
Fandom: FAKE
Author: badly_knitted
Characters: Dee, Ryo.
Rating: G
Challenge: 107: Torn at drabble_weekly.
Spoilers/Setting: After Like Like Love.
Summary: Dee and Ryo are used to the impact their job has on their clothes.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Double drabble.

Dee shook out his shirt, studied it, and gave a resigned shrug. “Police work can be hell on the wardrobe. Good thing I wasn’t particularly attached to that one; the only thing it’s good for now is rags.”

Ryo could sympathise; several of his shirts had wound up in the ragbag too. You didn’t have to get shot or stabbed for clothes to be ruined; sometimes all it took was chasing a suspect, or having some guy resist arrest.

“They don’t make shirts like they used to.” Dee stuck his hand through the ragged hole where the sleeve had been torn half off.

“They do,” Ryo corrected him. “They just cost more than we can afford on our salary, and anyway it wouldn’t be worth spending that kind of money on something that could get ripped on a rusty fire escape, stained with someone else’s blood, or soaked in oil or spaghetti sauce.” It had been that kind of week. “Better to get work shirts in bulk from the discount clothing outlet. Works out much cheaper that way.”

“And people wonder why most cops don’t dress stylishly.” Dee said with a wry smile. “I don’t know how JJ does it.”

The End

JJ came from money. Heh.

Aside from that, there are more interesting ways for Dee and Ryo to tear their clothing. Hah!
here are, but Ryo frowns on that kind of thing ;)

JJ probably buys two or three of each outfit so if something gets ruined he's still okay.

Thank you!
JJ is just really good at what he does.
And has more money for nice clothes.

Thank you!
Very true and better quality tends to be more expensive but it is sturdier too.
Plus he can afford to buy the same outfit several times so if one part gets damaged he's got a replacement. And he only ever wears this season's clothes so he changes his whole wardrobe like four times a year, before he can wear things out. Lucky JJ.
He really is. It's funny how the manga really emphasizes JJ's fashion sense but the fact that his family has money is only shown in one line and is used as an insult.
That is odd, but I guess his colleagues and friends don't make a big deal out of his wealth. He's more than proved himself as a cop. They know he's as dedicated as they are.
Good insight that far too many people take for granted. Unfortunately the very people who are paid to keep our lives safe aren't paid worth a damn, and I can say that with honesty, being that my adopted uncle is a cop. Poor baby's always working, is working THREE freaking jobs, and still ended up having to go bankrupt earlier this year!
Cops really should be better paid. You really have to be dedicated to work such a difficult job for so little reward.

Thank you!
