“Shouldn’t you have gone straight home instead of coming back here?” Ryo asked Dee, concerned for his partner after what he’d just been through.


“Would’ve loved to,” Dee told him, slumping into the chair at his desk, “but I need to get this done while everything’s still fresh in my mind.”


Dee reached for a pencil only to have it slip through his fingers and go clattering across his desk onto the floor. “Dammit!” he muttered, going to pick it up and finding himself completely unable to get any kind of grip on it.


“Here,” Ryo told him, picking up the pencil and holding it out to his partner. “Not that I have the faintest idea what you plan to do with it once you’ve got it.”


“Thanks, bud.” Taking the pencil carefully between his bandaged hands, Dee poised it over his computer keyboard and started awkwardly poking at keys with it. “Where there’s a will there’s a way,” he said, grinning triumphantly. Burning both of his hands saving someone from a blazing car wreck hurt like hell, but since he was the only one who knew what had happened, this was one report he would have to write himself.
