After three long months working in Washington as part of a national anti-terrorist taskforce, Ryo was sure of only one thing; he never wanted to do anything like that again. It hadn’t all been bad; the work had been interesting as well as important, and he’d been working with a good team, each bringing their own strengths to the task, but he’d never felt he fitted in the way the others did.
He’d been out of place, adrift; Washington wasn’t New York and he’d been reminded every time he’d stepped outside how far he was from home. Frustratingly, he’d kept getting lost, and although he hadn’t been the only one, it had made him feel stupid, a liability to the rest of the team. Frankly, it was embarrassing.
Stepping off the plane in New York was a relief; he was back on familiar ground, in a city he knew like the back of his hand. He could hardly wait to get home, relax on his own sofa, sleep in his own bed…
Collecting his luggage, he stepped out onto the main concourse and there was Dee’s familiar figure, waiting for him. Ryo smiled; he’d missed his lover most of all.
