Drabble: The Rift In Autumn

Title: The Rift In Autumn

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Jack, Ianto, Tosh

Rating: PG

Written For: Challenge 296 – Autumn In Cardiff at tw100

Spoilers: None at all.

Summary: Autumn in Cardiff can bring unanticipated hazards, as Ianto discovers.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

Ianto stomped into the Hub, muttering under his breath, with Jack trailing along behind him.

“Ianto, calm down! It was a work related accident, Torchwood will pay for the repairs.”

“What happened?” Tosh asked, looking concerned.

“The Rift’s gone mental, that’s what! I think it has a grudge against me,” Ianto groaned, shoving his hands through his hair, making it stick up in all directions and dislodging bits of leaf.

“It’s not mental, just seasonal,” Jack explained, patting him comfortingly on the shoulder.

“Oh yeah? That’s no excuse for it to drop an entire bloody alien tree on my car!”

Hehe! Poor Ianto. In places that are not Cardiff, a falling leaf is more common.
But in Cardiff you get the whole tree, and it's not even an earth tree, lol!

Thank you.
I thought it was going to be that he was....no, can't tell, have story idea! thank you - this is the best drabble ever, LOL!
Thank you, glad you got an idea from it!

Looking forward to seeing what you write now, I can't even imagine!
Poor Ianto!!!
Loved it!!!
Hugs, my dear J!!!
Thank you, dear Ani! *hugs back*

How are things with you?
Lol only Ianto.
Yep, he's the butt of another of the Rift's little jokes. Sometimes he just can't win, everything takes pot-shots at his already battered dignity.

Thank you.
poor Ianto! Bad tree bad!!!!
Well, technically it's not the tree's fault. There it was, growing peacefully on an alien world somewhere, when suddenly it's ripped from the ground, flung through a rip in space/time and dumped unceremoniously on something cold and hard. It was quite a painful landing. It really didn't mean to damage anything.

Poor Ianto, poor tree, Bad Rift!

Thank you.
Oops, yeah, I doubt insurance would pay for that. Makes you wonder if Cardiff has Rift Insurance. LOL!

Probably not. There might be a policy out there insuring people against unforeseen circumstances and general weirdness though, lol!

Thank you.
Wow, and here I thought I had it bad, what with having to rake all the fallen leaves; and then there's Ianto, poor darling, having his car trashed by a whole tree °_0 But of course Jack takes it all in stride LOL
Jack's seen more weirdness than anyone else, it takes a lot to rattle him! He'll arrange for the repairs while the team deals with the unfortunate tree. It's a displaced alien, so Torchwood will do what they can for it. Assuming it survived its trip through the rift, that is. Otherwise there will be a very big bonfire!

Thank you.
Lol. Poor Ianto!
Love the play on words with the title. :-)
Thank you =)

Poor Ianto indeed, he seldom escapes with his dignity intact!
Not Ianto's car! I hope he wasnt too attached to it.
Jack thinks it can be fixed, it's just a bit dented and scratched. thankfully Ianto wasn't in it at the time. If it were my car, I think I'd be inconsolable. I get rather attached to them myself, but I think Ianto is usually more practical about such things. He's mostly just worried about how he's going to explain it to the insurance company.

Thank you.
Oh dear poor Ianto LOL. but look on the bright side Ianto at least the rift didnt drop an entire tree on you.
Good point! And Ianto wasn't in the car at the time, so it could have been a lot worse. From Ianto's point of view anyway. The tree, on the other hand...

Thank you.

Whoo-boy! Not what we usually mean by "Fall". I can just see Ianto rolling his eyes and wondering "Why me? Again?"
Yep, poor Ianto just can't win, the Rift is having way too much fun at his expense!

Thank you.

That is going to be one interesting insurance claim.
I think that's why Jack's saying Torchwood will pay. There's no way Ianto can explain that one to the insurance company and have them actually believe him - even in Cardiff!

Thank you.
Oh no, not the Audi! Mean tree!
The Audi is fixable, the tree didn't choose to be dumped on top of it. Spare a thought for the tree!

Thank you.
*hides smile*

Great drabble
Thank you. Smile away, Ianto's just a pit put out, he'll get over it.
I'm sorry Ianto, I know it's sad but how Badly Knitted written, it's very funny!!
I'm sure at some future time, Ianto tell the laughing (at least people allowed, otherwise it will must use the retcon after !)
Thank you, I'm sure Ianto will be able to laugh about it later, and even tell people - about the day a freak whirlwind dropped a tree on his car out of nowhere. At least if he tells them that, he won't need the retcon!
