A/N: Double drabble.
They’d tracked their fugitive to a rundown motel across the river in Hoboken. When they knocked on the door and announced themselves, there was complete silence for a few seconds followed by frantic scrabbling noises.
“Either the rats here are even bigger than the ones in the Bronx, or our friend is making a quick exit out the back,” Dee said with a smirk, signalling the motel manager to unlock the door.
Bursting in, guns drawn, they scanned the shabby bedroom but the only things there were scattered bedclothes, several days’ worth of takeout containers, and a few cockroaches. The bathroom door was closed and locked, but so flimsy it popped right open when Dee gave it shove, and there was Maury Banks, halfway out the bathroom window…
That was as far as he could get; Banks was not a small man, and looking at the window, Ryo thought Bikky would find it a tight squeeze. “Going somewhere, Maury?”
“I’ve heard it said where there’s a will there’s a way,” Dee said helpfully. “Maybe if ya suck your belly in real hard….”
“I don’t think that’s going to help.” Ryo flashed his partner a grin. “Better call the fire department.”
