Sometimes Dee wondered if he enjoyed this part of his job more than he should. Running flat out in pursuit of a suspect, he dodged pedestrians, hurdled obstacles like an athlete going for the world record, practically skidded around corners… He felt the adrenaline pumping as he pushed himself to run faster, long legs eating up the distance between himself and the man he was chasing.

Perhaps it tapped into the primal side of human nature, the thrill of the chase, only he wasn’t hunting some poor, helpless animal; he was after a bastard suspected of forcing his way into the homes of elderly women, beating them up, and stealing everything valuable he could find. He was a savage, remorseless predator; it was time he learned how it felt to be the prey.

Thinking of the victims, Dee reminded himself he probably shouldn’t be enjoying this so much, but as he swept around a corner he caught a glimpse of Ryo running beside him, their feet slapping the sidewalk in unison. Saw the savage glee on his partner’s face, mirroring what he felt.

Their quarry was fast but they were faster; no doubt about it, they were taking him down.

The End
