Dee’s mouth and hands were stained purple and Ryo’s weren’t any better, but neither man cared. The wild blackberries were ripe and warmed by the sun; just walking past without picking and eating a few would have been impossible. Not that they’d wound up just eating a few because once they’d started, stopping hadn’t been an option. The sweet, juicy fruit tasted too good and they’d abandoned their walk in favour of the unexpected feast.
“I haven’t done this since I was a kid,” Ryo admitted, scanning the bramble patch, disappointed to realise there were no more ripe berries within his reach.
“I’m not sure I ever have,” Dee replied, a pensive expression on his face as he tried to remember; then he shrugged. “I’m scratched all over, and I don’t even care.” He reached up to pick a final few berries, only accessible because he was a few inches taller than Ryo, and shared them with his lover.
“We’re a mess.”
“Yep!” Dee grinned, unrepentant. Before Ryo could take evasive action, his lover pounced, pulling him in for a kiss, licking the berry juice from around Ryo’s lips. “Mm, you taste good; I know what I’m having for dessert.”
