It had been a decade, a full ten years almost to the day, since Ryo had first opened his heart and home to a scared, grieving ten-year-old boy, but sometimes it seemed like only yesterday. The time had flown by so fast.
Now Bikky was a six foot four twenty-year-old college student, his blond hair bleached even lighter by the L.A. sunshine, but his eyes remained the same startling blue they’d been the first time Ryo had seen the boy who was to become his son. He couldn’t be more proud of the man Bikky was growing into.
Dee grumbled about having to look up at the squirt, but Ryo knew his partner was proud of Bikky too, despite the doubts he’d voiced when Ryo had first said he wanted to foster the orphaned boy. He’d been convinced Ryo was making a huge mistake; that he’d wind up regretting his impulsive decision. But after a few years he’d been forced to grudgingly admit the kid was turning out okay.
“I can’t believe you’re getting married in a few days,” Ryo said. “You’ve grown up so fast!”
“And he’s still growin’,” Dee muttered. “Maybe you shouldn’t have fed him so much.”
