The sun was finally setting and the temperature dropping enough to provide some respite from the freak heatwave. Following dinner and an evening walk around the bay, Dee and Ryo strolled hand-in-hand through the streets of St Austell, on their way back to the guesthouse where they’d booked a room for the night.
It was still hot, but at least now there was a breeze off the sea, cooling them enough that they no longer felt in imminent danger of melting. The humidity seemed lower too, making the heat easier to bear. This was definitely the best part of the day.
“Maybe we should make an early start in the mornin’, before it gets too hot out,” Dee suggested. “I mean, if we’re gonna drive across to Newquay.”
“Mm, maybe. I don’t fancy being stuck in the car again during the hottest part of the day.”
“Me neither; felt like a roast in the oven.”
“Are you thinking of giving surfing a go?”
“Depends on if I have the energy when we get there,” Dee grinned.
“Or we could just stay here and laze around on the beach.”
“It’s late; why don’t we figure it out tomorrow?”
“Works for me.”
