“It’s too hot!” Ryo groaned, fanning himself with one of the folders from the end of his desk.
“Tell me something I don’t know,” Dee mumbled, slumped in his seat. His shirt was sticking to his chest and he kept having to shove his hair back off his forehead to keep that from sticking too.
“Wish it was winter already. Snow would make a welcome change from this heatwave.”
Dee gave a tired chuckle. “If it was snowin’ you’d be complainin’ about that too.” Ryo wasn’t a huge fan of snow, mostly because it made their work even more difficult than usual.
“You’re right, I probably would, but why does it have to be so hot?”
“Because it’s summer?”
Ryo didn’t dignify that with an answer.
It wouldn’t have been so bad if the precinct’s air conditioning hadn’t packed up. They’d waited three hours for someone from maintenance to come and fix it only for him to tell them he didn’t have the part he needed and would have to requisition it from supplies. Knowing how long that usually took, it looked like they’d have to endure the heat for at least another day, possibly longer.
Levering himself out of his seat, Dee peeled the shirt off his chest and looked across at his lover.
“I can’t make it snow, but I know where we can get some ice to cool us off.”
“Yeah?” Ryo dropped his makeshift fan onto the desk.
“Forget about coffee, let’s have an ice-cream break.”
