Dee stretched and sighed, radiating contentment. One of the best things about vacations was not getting dragged out of a deep sleep by the irritating sound of an alarm clock; he could wake up in his own time, feeling well rested and completely relaxed.
Beside him, sprawled face down on the bed, the thin sheet at his waist, Ryo was still asleep, smiling faintly, perhaps dreaming sweet dreams of all the fun things they’d done so far on their vacation.
Warm sunlight shone through a gap between curtains that fluttered in a light breeze, and somewhere outside chickens were clucking. Dee wondered if there’d be fresh farm eggs for breakfast. What a stroke of luck last night to find this farm with rooms to let, less than three miles from the coast.
He checked his wristwatch, surprised to find it wasn’t even eight o’clock yet. He must have slept like a log, the fresh country air and complete lack of stress combining to give him the most restful night’s sleep he’d had in ages.
Ryo stirred, rolling onto his back and stretching, smiling when he saw Dee watching him.
“Morning. What time is it?”
“Ten to eight.” Dee sniffed the air. “I smell breakfast cooking; bacon, eggs, sausage…” His mouth started to water. “Damn.”
“What?” Ryo regarded his lover drowsily.
“I’m so comfy I was gonna just lie here for a while longer, but now I’m hungry.”
Laughing, Ryo propped himself up on one elbow. “Guess that means we should get up.”
“I guess so.”
Ryo leaned in for a quick kiss before sitting up, swinging his feet off the edge of the bed, and stretching again. “Maybe we could stay here another night.”
“I was just thinkin’ the same thing.” Dee smiled, content. “All mornings should be like this.”
