“Two weeks!” the Chief complained, slamming his hands on the top of his desk and glaring across at Dee and Ryo. “Two weeks you’ve been working on this and you claim you STILL don’t have a single lead? A fine pair of detectives you are!”
“To be fair, Sir, this isn’t the only case we’re working on,” Ryo pointed out. “And you did say the homicides and assaults should take priority over your theft.”
“I know what I said, Randy, but… no leads at all?”
“I’m sorry, Sir, we’re doing the best we can but there’s no CCTV on that street, not even a traffic camera. We went door-to-door but nobody saw or heard anything. We did find fingerprints, but whoever they belong to isn’t in the system.”
“That was a long shot anyway,” Dee said with a shrug. “Goin’ by the size, the thief is most likely a kid.”
“I could’ve told you that, numbskull!” the Chief ranted. “Teens these days…”
“A young kid,” Ryo cut in. “Probably no older than ten.”
“Will knowing that help you find the culprit?” Chief Smith demanded.
Ryo shook his head. “Probably not, Sir. We might never find out who stole your hubcaps.”
