Ryo’s decision to take the kid in and give him a home struck Dee as absurd. Practically all they knew about Victor ‘Bikky’ Goldman was that he was ten-years-old, his mom was dead, and his dad, a freelance transporter specialising in drugs, had just gotten himself gunned down with extreme prejudice. The rugrat didn’t exactly have a good pedigree, plus Ryo had only met him a few hours earlier, which was definitely nowhere near enough time to make a well-informed decision, but despite all that Dee’s new partner had made up his mind. The dude hadn’t struck Dee as the impulsive type; just went to show first impressions weren’t always accurate.
He and Ryo were both stuck bodyguarding Bikky anyway, at least until they closed the case, so like it or not Dee was just gonna have to put up with the brat. It sucked, but what could he do? Even if the kid didn’t know anything, he could still be in danger.
The attack came the very next day, in broad daylight; a car pulled up, some jerk in a suit leaned out, and grabbed the annoying little runt.
Dee saw red.
So what if he didn’t like the kid? Bikky was under Dee’s protection and those bastards weren’t getting away with this. He waded in, determined to save the day, but all that got him was knocked out cold and abducted along with the brat.
What was that saying? No good deed goes unpunished?
Ain’t that the truth!
