Ryo’s bed was huge, had to be at least a king, possibly even bigger; Dee couldn’t help thinking of all the things he’d be able to do with his new partner in a bed with all that space. Maybe if he played his cards right he might get the chance someday soon.

Tonight was all about sleep though, the presence of a certain small, not to mention annoying, kid made that clear. Still, it had been a long day, Dee was beat, and a good night’s sleep would be welcome so he scrambled over to the side nearest the window, sliding beneath the covers, sinking into the pile of soft pillows. Damn if the bed wasn’t even more comfortable than it looked!

The kid was in the middle, and Ryo on the far side, which was kind of a shame since it meant Dee wouldn’t get to ‘accidentally’ snuggle up to the delectable Detective Maclean, but he could wait. Closing his eyes, he prepared to dream sweet dreams.

Fat chance of that, as it turned out. As spacious as the bed had appeared, it was nowhere near big enough for two grown men and a ten-year-old boy who apparently liked to re-enact martial arts movies in his sleep. Dee soon lost count of how many times he’d gotten punched or kicked into wakefulness by windmilling arms and legs.

Yet through it all, Ryo and the kid slept on, undisturbed. How was that fair?

‘Maybe I should’a slept on the sofa.’

The End
