For the first time in weeks, the night sky was completely clear of clouds, the stars twinkling overhead like fairy lights. Ianto looked up, holding his breath so he didn’t accidentally obscure the view; it was so cold every breath hung on the still air in a cloud of vapour.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” said Jack beside him.
“Yes, just a pity it’s too cold to stay out here for long.”
“Come here.” Jack opened his coat, wrapping it around Ianto’s coated figure from behind, so they were both enfolded in the warm, heavy wool.
Coat folded its hem around their legs in a way that a normal coat could never emulate. As much as it loved being a Hero Coat, flapping, fluttering, and flaring to make its owner look suitably dashing as he saved the world, in some ways it loved keeping its favourite humans cosy even more.
“Mm, that’s nice.” Ianto leaned back against Jack’s chest, woolly hat pulled down over his ears, the folds of his scarf protecting his neck, both Jack and Coat cuddling him close. The gloves that had been ruined earlier no longer mattered. “We probably look like a two-headed man,” he mused.
Jack laughed.
