“What’s this?” Dee asked, holding something up as he helped Ryo unpack all the boxes of kitchen items he’d brought with him when he’d moved in a few days earlier.

Ryo glanced up from the box he was emptying. “Um, it’s for slicing onions.”

“Huh.” Dee set it on the countertop. “How about this one?” He brandished a stainless steel scoop thing.

“Uh, that’s for making meatballs, and the plastic thing’s for separating eggs.”

“What about this?” Dee studied the strip of coloured plastic with different sized holes in it.

“Ah, that’s for measuring portions of spaghetti.”

“And this one?”

“Makes melon balls. Then the yellow one’s for slicing bananas and the green one’s a citrus peeler.”

“What about the rubber tube?”

“That’s for peeling garlic, and it’s not rubber, it’s silicon.”

“Right, ‘course it is.”

Dee frowned as he continued emptying the box, laying out all the peculiar items side by side. Finally he spoke again.

“Ryo?”

“Hm?”

“If you’ve got all these clever gadgets, how come I’ve never seen you usin’ any of ‘em?”

Ryo grinned sheepishly. “They look so great when I see them in the shops, but in the end I always manage better without them.”

The End
