“Hey, monkey boy, where’s your banana?”
Bikky ignored the taunt, pretended he hadn’t heard; he was used to having insults hurled at him and though he hated it, resented being the target of bullies, there wasn’t much he could do about it, being small for his age.
The other boy wasn’t giving up though. “Hey, you deaf, monkey boy? I’m talkin’ to ya!”
A hand grabbed Bikky’s shoulder, squeezing painfully hard, and something in him snapped. He spun around, fists flying, punching his tormentor in the stomach as hard as he could, and just kept going, hitting the bigger boy over and over again until he fell, then standing over him, blue eyes flashing fury.
“Don’t ever call me that again,” he hissed.
The bully stared up at him, eyes wide in a pale face, but said nothing as Bikky spun on his heel and made for the school. Bikky knew he’d probably get in trouble, someone was bound to report him to one of the teachers, but he didn’t care. He’d stood up for himself against a bigger, older, stronger boy, and he’d won. He was through with being pushed around; from now on he was gonna fight back.
