“Argh! Dammit!” Dee yelped as his bare foot came down on a rubber chew toy carelessly abandoned in the middle of the floor. His body jerked as he tried to both maintain balance and move his foot at the same time, and the rich, meaty stew in the dish he was carrying slopped over the edge and splashed across the floor.
“Dee!” Ryo cried, annoyed. “How can you be so clumsy? I don’t know why you insist on eating in front of the TV anyway, it’s not even a playoff game, and now look at the mess you’ve made!”
“I’m lookin’,” Dee said, “But if it’s any consolation, I don’t think it’s gonna be a mess much longer. Wouldn’t surprise me if this was the mutt’s plan all along.”
His thin little whip of a tail wagging furiously back and forth, Dick the dachshund was busily lapping up the spilled stew.
Coming all the way out of the kitchen, Ryo stared in dismay. “But he’s already been fed! He’s not supposed to have anything else tonight!”
“Yeah, well you try tellin’ the dog that.” Turning, Dee headed back the way he’d come. “Think I’ll eat at the table after all.”
