It’s easier for Ryo to deny the attraction he feels than it is for him to admit, even to himself, that he might actually be gay. So he puts up a wall around himself, shuts down Dee’s advances as best he can, and tries to hide his confusion and self-doubt behind a thin veneer of disinterest. It’s the mental equivalent of shutting his eyes, sticking his fingers in his ears, and singing loudly; it’s ridiculous, but it works after a fashion. If only it was that easy to make the feelings go away.
Deep down he knows it’s not a permanent solution; all he’s really doing is delaying the inevitable. There’s going to come a time when he’ll have to face up to the truth about everything he is. He can’t spend the rest of his life hiding from himself; that would be unhealthy.
Dee isn’t making things easy either; he keeps catching Ryo off guard, taking advantage whenever he’s distracted, and kissing him, which is a seriously dirty trick. Sometimes Bikky shows up to defend his foster father’s honour, but when he doesn’t, when Ryo’s alone with Dee, no rescue in sight…
Ryo knows he probably shouldn’t, at the very least he’s leading his partner on, but Dee’s kisses are addictive and just occasionally he can’t help wondering what harm it could possibly do to indulge himself, to let the kisses continue, even to respond, kissing back, relishing Dee’s confidence and skill, and the heady sensations of pleasure and desire that flood his body.
He’s digging himself in deeper every time and he knows he should probably stop before things go too far, but he’s really not sure he wants to. So here he is, teetering on a knife-edge between fear and desire, and wondering which way he’ll fall.
