Double Drabble: Grand Event

Title: Grand Event
Author: badly_knitted
Characters: Jack, Ianto.
Rating: G
Written For: Challenge 608: Event at tw100.
Spoilers: Nada.
Summary: There’s a big party coming up…
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.
A/N: Double drabble. Set in my ‘Ghost of a Chance’ ‘verse.

“It’s the social event of the year in this sector,” Jack explained, flicking through the wardrobe in their quarters for something suitable to wear. “People will go to almost any lengths to get an invitation; some even make their own. The record for fake invitations stands at nine hundred and forty-three; that was back in the reign of Emperor Mingit, who
was so pleased he had all the uninvited guests made honorary nobility for the week. Everyone had a wonderful time.”

“That’s lovely for them, but it doesn’t help us, does it? Not unless you plan for us to gatecrash the party. I don’t imagine uninvited guests are always treated so well.”

“True. Emperor Decitus had gatecrashers beheaded, including the Empress, who he’d forgotten to invite.”

“I don’t particularly want to be beheaded.”

“You won’t be; we’re invited.”

“We are?” That surprised Ianto.

“Of course! I applied for an invitation four years ago and I just got confirmation that my application’s been accepted. Captain Jack Harkness, plus one.”

“Application? Don’t the Emperors just invite their families, friends, and other heads of state?”

Jack snorted. “That would be boring; far better to invite complete strangers so everyone can make new friends.”

The End
