This was the life, lazing about, floating on his back in the hotel pool. Ryo could scarcely remember the last time he’d felt this relaxed. He had to admit Dee had been right about booking their vacation out of season; prices were lower, the hotel was almost empty, but the weather was still plenty warm enough and they had the pool practically to themselves. There were a couple of kids splashing about in the shallow end, half a dozen people lounging in pool chairs, soaking up the sun, but that was it.
Dee had gone to get the two of them cool drinks, but Ryo had opted to stay in the pool, floating weightlessly. He hardly ever got to swim back home, too busy with work and life to find the time on a regular basis, so he intended to spend a much time in the water as his lover would let him get away with.
Serenely bobbing on the surface, he was oblivious to everything until something snagged the back of his trunks and he was abruptly dragged underwater; he just had time to snatch a quick breath before he was completely submerged.
Floundering his way back to the surface, his peaceful reverie shattered, he looked around for the cause, finding it almost immediately. Dee; of course it was.
“What the hell did you do that for?” He scowled at his partner, annoyed.
“Sorry, babe; couldn’t resist.” Dee’s grin was utterly unrepentant. “Don’t ya know you gotta watch out for sharks in these waters?”
Ryo snorted disparagingly, but couldn’t keep from returning Dee’s grin; it was too infectious. Besides, what was the point of getting mad? They were on vacation; they should be having fun. “It’s a hotel pool, Dee; no sharks here. The only underwater menace is you!”
