“What’s this?” Jack asked as Ianto set a dish in front of him.
“Breakfast. What does it look like?”
“It looks like a dish of fruit.”
“Well there you go; you didn’t need to ask, did you?”
“Fruit is not breakfast!” Jack protested. “Breakfast is bacon and eggs and sausages, or at the very least cereal, toast, and marmalade!”
“Greasy fried breakfasts are bad for you, all that fat and cholesterol clogging your arteries, and cereals are packed with sugar, not to mention too much salt. Fresh fruit and yoghurt is a far healthier option. You can have some wholemeal toast with low fat spread after if you’re still hungry. No marmalade though, that’s mostly sugar too, very little nutritional value.”
Jack wilted. “Why are you punishing me?”
“It’s not punishment, Jack, it’s healthy eating. We’ve both been piling on way too many calories lately. You’ll thank me for this.”
Less than a week later found Jack and Ianto tucking into a huge fried breakfast, not a piece of fruit in sight. Turned out immortals needed a whole lot more calories than regular humans to keep their energy levels up.
“Cheer up, Ianto. We can still have fruit as snacks.”
