Oh, awkward! Of all the times for her mom to come home, this is… so not good, not with Angel in the kitchen, shirtless. Buffy scrambles to intercept her, hoping to divert her mom elsewhere, but that only makes her suspicious, and then Angel is just… there, thankfully dressed again, his jacket hiding the bloodstain. Oh boy, introduction time.
“Um... Angel, this is my mom. Mom, this is Angel. We ran into each other on the way home.” It’s close to the truth just not ALL of the truth; best to leave out the bit about the three vampires, and Angel getting stabbed.
Angel is all polite, and Buffy’s mom is all nosy, like mom’s everywhere; a strange guy shows up in her house, alone with her only daughter, the mom radar starts sending signals, and then the questions start. Buffy’s been here before and it’s not gonna be pretty; her mom interrogating Angel is the last thing she needs. Letting Angel answer her mom’s questions is an even worse idea; they haven’t even had time to get their stories straight!
“He's a student. Uh, first year community college. Angel's been helping me with my history; you know I've been toiling there.”
Amazingly, her mom buys the explanation; maybe it’s because she’s tired. As introductions go, that one went better than most and Buffy breathes a silent sigh of relief as her mom starts up the stairs, calling out a final, “It was nice to meet you.”
With her mom out of sight, Buffy says goodnight to her handsome stalker, shuts the front door then leads Angel upstairs. It’s too dangerous for him to leave so she’s gonna have to hide him in her room until morning. If her mom ever finds out about that she’ll be grounded for eternity!
