A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.
Dee pulled a face at the monstrosity Ryo had just handed him. “You expect me to wear this? It’s hideous!”
“Be nice, Dee. Melinda knitted it for you herself. She put a lot of effort into it,” Ryo chided.
“Yeah, she worked hard at makin’ it as ugly as she could.” Dee scowled at the green, black, and yellow stripes. “Looks like one of Mother’s tea cosies, right down to the bobble on the top.” It was the size of a baseball and multicoloured, like Ryo’s neighbour had made it from all the scraps of yarn she had left over from other projects.
“Bikky was more tactful about his hat than you’re being.”
Dee snorted. “Melinda likes the brat. His is probably more tasteful.”
“It’s orange with a green bobble; perfect for Halloween if he wants to dress as a pumpkin.” How Ryo kept a straight face Dee didn’t know. “I got one as well.” Ryo produced a red and brown striped hat with an incongruous white bobble on top, and put it on. “What d’you think?”
“Better be careful nobody mistakes that for a snowball!” Dee teased.
“Melinda might not have the best fashion sense but her heart’s in the right place. She just wants us to stay warm.”
“I guess there’s one good thing about these,” Dee said, pulling his hat on and checking his appearance in the mirror. “Any criminals catch sight of us wearin’ these eyesores they’re gonna be laughin’ way too hard to resist arrest.”
