Alien planets were fascinating, especially the ones inhabited by advanced sentient species. The people had their own language and culture, their own customs and traditions, their own architecture, fashions, and cuisine…
Whenever they were able to, Jack and Ianto liked to deliver their cargo and then take a look around, meeting the people, seeing the sights, sampling the local delicacies, or at least the ones suitable for human consumption, and generally broadening their knowledge of the universe they lived in. It was fun doing the whole tourist thing.
Of course exploring a planet, or even just a city, couldn’t be done on foot because of the distances involved, so transportation was required. Sometimes there’d be some kind of public transport available, but on this occasion they’d chosen to rent a two-seater vehicle a bit like an electric car. It was quite freeing, but it meant learning the local road signs.
Jack pointed at one showing a mauve circle. “What’s that one mean?”
Ianto flipped through the handy guide they’d been given. “No idea, can’t find it.”
Their vehicle abruptly dipped forward and came to rest at an angle.
“Oh, oops! I think it means there’s a hole in the road!”
