“It’s a perfect plan,” Jack insisted. “It can’t fail!”
“I wouldn’t say perfect,” Ianto said dubiously. “There are a lot of things that could still go wrong.”
“You can be such a pessimist! It’s foolproof. The nets will create a path the creature has to follow, leading right up into the back of the truck, and then we just have to shut the doors behind it and take it out to the reservation. It’s a herbivore so it should be perfectly happy there.”
Several large nets had been set up, tied to trees, to form an avenue for the team to drive the creature along, the idea being that they’d prevent the alien straying from the path they wanted it to take. That was all very well in theory.
Driving it ahead of them was no problem, everyone just made a lot of noise and the creature was soon moving, but when it saw the truck it veered away, tore through the nets and took down two trees.
Ianto looked at the path of destruction. “Foolproof, you said. Can’t fail.” He cast a look Jack’s way. “Not alien proof though, was it?”
Jack frowned. “Maybe if we camouflage the truck…”
