Dee was going over his latest arrestee’s rap sheet. “You’ve been a busy boy, haven’t you, Duane? Five counts of aggravated theft, two counts of receivin’ stolen property, four counts of carryin’ a concealed weapon, two counts of breakin’ and enterin’ with intent to steal, four counts of disturbin’ the peace and causin’ affray, and three counts of destruction of public property.”
“Hey, no way, man, ya can’t go layin’ that last one on me! That wuz when I were a little kid, weren’t nuthin’ more’n a bit of graffiti! I wuz tol’ my record back then been expulsed, like it never ‘appened!”
“I think ya mean ‘expunged’.”
“Whatever. I weren’t not guilty of nuthin’ then, and I ain’t not guilty of nuthin’ now, neither!”
Dee winced; it was a safe bet Duane Crawshaw never graduated high school. “Damn, just for that I should add one count of murderin’ grammar.”
