BtVS Double Drabble - All Dressed Up

Title: All Dressed Up
Fandom: BtVS
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Buffy, Cordelia.
Rating: G
Written Using: The dw100 prompt ‘Dressed / Undressed’.
Setting: Homecoming.
Summary: This isn’t the way the evening was supposed to go.
Disclaimer: I don’t own BtVS, or the characters. They belong to the amazing Joss Whedon.
A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.

Buffy and Cordelia were looking their best for the Homecoming Dance; they both had on new dresses bought specifically for the occasion, their hair was elegantly styled, and their makeup flawless. They’d gone all out since this would be their last Homecoming; they were seniors and would be graduating before long. Not that they wouldn’t have gotten themselves all dressed up anyway, but perhaps they’d put a little extra effort into their preparations. Nothing wrong with looking all pretty.

Or there wouldn’t have been under other circumstances, but if Buffy had known they’d be abducted and dumped in the woods outside Sunnydale she would have at least made sure to tuck a few choice weapons in her purse.

Slayer Fest, that’s what the guy in the recorded message had said. People, and things that were both less and more than people, were somewhere out there hunting them, and how was that even fair?

Then again, demons, vampires and such weren’t known for their sense of fair play so she shouldn’t be surprised. What did surprise her was that the idiots had somehow mistaken Cordelia for Faith. Losers!

Well, Buffy wasn’t giving up without a fight. Circumstances, and present company, might not be ideal but no way was she letting anyone get the better of her, and if her new dress got ruined in the process there was gonna be hell to pay. It hadn’t been cheap!

She and Cordy were gonna take out the hunters and still make the dance!

The End

Buffy always had to think on her feet. While Cordelia is good at bluffing.
Cordelia grew up believing she was better than everyone else, she has that unshakeable confidence that she'll come out on top

Becoming vision girl helped a lot with her personal growth.
It did, although her dad losing all his money started her on her new path.

She couldn't afford to study at university. I assume she had a minimum wage job while chasing the dream of being an actor. Before she bumped into Angel in Los Angeles.
Most likely, shopworker or waitress.

Yeah. When Buffy runaway she got a job as a waitress but we didn't see her going hungry like Cordelia. But that was just probably the narrative.
Maybe Buffy got top eat leftovers. {Plus, she would have learned from her mom how to manage on her own. Cordelia always had servants so she was in at the deep end.
Yes! I relate more to Buffy in that sense. I believe Cordelia tried to cook once but she wasn't good at it. That would take alot of practice if you don't have the knack for it.

However, she did help look after Connor as a baby. So she must have learned to be more resourceful in that sense.

I think she had to grow up and learn a lot of stuff once she went out on her own. Most kids learn to cook because their moms teach them. I CAN cook, I just hate it.

Being a slayer was hard enough. Top that with earning a living.

My mum is a great cook, but she doesn't like doing it. Many people have praised her work. She only started, because her mum told her too.*shrugs*

I wish that I had the skill to be really good at something, with minimum enthusiasm. :D
True. Buffy had it tough.

My mum was a good cook too.

Slayers should have gotten benefits.*sighs*

Did your mum have a specialty, or she just like making various meals and so on?
You made all kinds of things, knew how to make a little go a long way, but I always loved her bread pudding. I miss that.

Sounds interesting! I've never attempted a bread pudding myself. My mum has done a variation on it.:)
The secret of a good bread pudding is to put in about ten times as much mixed spice as the recipe says, and loads of raisins, lol!

Oh, really? Well, I never stick to the exact measurements of a recipe, once I'm sure what works best.:)
I think the recipe mum had said a quarter teaspoon of mixed spice so mum used a couple of dessert spoonfuls *grins* Bread pudding should be spicy!

That sounds about right.*tempted*

I'm use to using cinnamon spice for cakes and the like.:)
Cinnamon is part of what's in ground mixed spice, but there's other stuff as well though I couldn't say what.

You should try it. You soak stale bread in water, squeeze out the excess water, stir in spice and raisins or other dried fruit... I think there might be some sort of binding agent used as well, maybe egg? Can't remember but you can look up the ingredients and oven temperature online. Grease a pyrex dish, smush the mixture firmly down into it, then bake in a pre-heated over. After it's done, cut a slice and serve with hot custard. I can be frozen too, just wrap each piece in foil and bung it in the freezer. Keeps really well and can be re-heated in the microwave.

Wow. Thanks for the information. I have made a note of it.:)
I'm just going from memory so you might want to look up a recipe online, I'm sure I'm forgetting ingredients, possibly sugar...

There something called bread and butter pudding too, but that's quite different and in my opinion, nowhere near as good as a proper bread pudding.

Okay. Your feedback will make things easier for me, while I research. I appreciate the tips:)
You're welcome! Hope you'll enjoy it!
*two thumbs up*

From Buffy to bread pudding. It doesn't get any better than this!:)
