Title: Slippery Problem
Fandom: FAKE
Author:
badly_knitted
Characters: Dee, Ryo.
Rating: PG
Written For: Challenge 230: Amnesty 23 at drabble_weekly, using Challenge 221: Freeze.
Spoilers/Setting: After Vol. 7.
Summary: Everywhere is frozen, causing all manner of problems for the NYPD.
Disclaimer: I don’t own FAKE, or the characters. They belong to the wonderful Sanami Matoh.
A/N: Double drabble.

New York was in the midst of a big winter freeze, the snow that had fallen overnight concealing a thick and treacherous layer of solid ice beneath its fluffy whiteness. There was a limit to what the snow plows could do about that. Even with salt and grit being spread, many of the city’s streets could have doubled as ice rinks.

Naturally, since in Dee’s opinion the majority of the human race was comprised of idiots with either no brain or a death wish, in some cases both, there’d already been several major pileups caused by people driving too fast and too close together. It didn’t bode well for his working day.

In weather like this, investigations into ongoing cases often had to be set aside to free up additional manpower for dealing with more immediate problems. Traffic had to be diverted around accidents, lanes cleared so emergency vehicles could get through, and there were inevitably fights to break up at the scenes of minor fender benders, all drivers involved blaming each other.

As he and Ryo went into action, slipping and sliding, trying not to fall over, Dee shook his head. NYPD on ice; it would never catch on.

The End
