Nosy took its responsibilities very seriously indeed. Ianto had told it to guard the treasures he’d placed in its care, and guard them it would. It lay in front of the cupboard, perfectly willing to remain there for days if necessary, quiet and still but alert, every hair on its long, fluffy body primed to detect the slightest movement of air that might indicate someone attempting to sneak up and take what didn’t belong to them.
The Fluff turned its head, sniffing the air; someone was approaching. The scent was familiar: Jack.
“Still on guard, are you?”
“Excellent. Not that I don’t trust you, but I should probably check, just to make certain everything’s still there.” Jack started forward but Nosy blocked his path.
“I just want to look!”
Ianto entered the kitchen. “Give it up, Jack; you’re not getting in that cupboard and neither is anyone else. Unlike a human, Nosy can’t be tricked, bribed, or lured from its post.”
“But don’t you think it’s a bit unfair making Nosy lie on the cold kitchen floor all night?”
“It has blankets.” Ianto smirked at his lover. “Nobody’s touching those Easter eggs until I hand them out tomorrow.”
