Ianto shut his eyes and resisted the temptation to cover them with his hands for good measure. He knew he should be used to Jack’s manic driving by now, and most days he was, but most days Jack wasn’t driving at high speed up a steep road clinging to the side of a hill. At the last sharp turn, he’d narrowly missed the guardrail that was the only thing between them and a long drop into the valley below. At these speeds, he doubted that it would hold if they clipped it; they’d be in mid-air before they knew what was happening. Roads such as this one simply weren’t designed with Jack’s driving in mind.
“For pity’s sake, Jack, slow down before we wind up plunging to a fiery death in the abyss!”
“Don’t be so melodramatic, Ianto; I know what I’m doing. We have to get to the ship before the Hadrazams escape with their loot!”
“You said yourself they were just a bunch of youngsters on a harmless scavenger hunt. Nothing to worry about.”
“I know what I said, but that was before!”
“Before what?” Ianto cautiously cracked open one eye.
“Before they went and stole my coat!”
