When Ianto had offered to organise Torchwood’s archives, he hadn’t realised what a ridiculously impossible task he was setting himself, mostly because when Jack had been showing him around the Hub, it had been something of a whirlwind tour.
“Armoury, med bay, cold storage, firing range, archives…”
Ianto had been given a brief glimpse of one large, messy room, then dragged off to see the Weevils and a couple of other aliens in the cells, which Jack expected him to feed and care for.
“I could carry out maintenance work around the Hub as well, do the filing, maybe even tidy the archives so you can find things. No offence, but it looked a bit messy down there.”
Jack had nodded. “Good idea. The rest of us never have the time; we do what we can, but it’s been decades since we had an archivist.”
Unfortunately, Jack had failed to mention that the area designated the archives wasn’t just a single room, but a whole series of interconnecting rooms and passageways, lined with shelves, and piled high with boxes and crates crammed with the accumulated junk from over a century of Rift activity.
“And I volunteered to sort it out.”
