There’d been a certain amount of reluctance on Ryo’s and Dee’s part to trading in their cabin cruiser. They’d made a lot of happy memories aboard her, sailing up and down the east coast, from New England all the way down to the Florida Keys, and the Gulf of Texas, but now, with Bikky and Carol’s family growing, it was simply too small for them all to vacation together.
The new yacht was at least three times the size of the cruiser, and was in Bikky’s name as well as Ryo’s, although Bikky had no intention of ever talking her out without his dad at the helm. It wasn’t that he couldn’t pilot her himself, but Ryo had a great deal more experience, knew the coastal
waters, and was more intuitive when it came to sailing than Bikky could ever hope to be.
So here they all were, Bikky and Carol, four kids, Ryo and Dee, on their maiden voyage aboard the new yacht. They were drifting lazily southward, somewhere off the Carolina coast, sipping cold drinks, the sun shining down on them and a warm breeze ruffling their hair.
Ryo smiled. “I wish it could always be like this.”
