Ianto stared in consternation. He’d wanted to brighten up his office area in the archives a bit, thought some greenery might add a splash of colour to the overall greyness, and he’d already known ferns did well in shade, but not this well.
He’d bought two nice, healthy-looking ferns down here the day before yesterday, planted them in a couple of tubs he’d found tucked away in a side room, and left them to get settled in, but then things had got a bit busy, as they so often did at Torchwood, and he hadn’t been back since. Now he really wished he’d spared a few minutes just to check…
There were lush ferns growing everywhere, festooning almost every surface, growing out of cracks in the concrete floor and walls, even clustering around the bases of his filing cabinets. Thankfully the cabinets were metal and therefore weren’t suitable for growing on, but his hardwood desk was another matter.
He clicked his Bluetooth. “Owen, get down here. I have a plant problem.”
“In the archives?”
“Yes!”
“This I have to see.”
Unsurprisingly, Owen found the whole situation hilarious.
“Nice décor, very subtle.”
“How do I get rid of them?”
“Search me.”
