“Vanity isn’t very becoming you know,” Ianto commented idly after he caught Jack checking his reflection in a shop window for the fifth time.
“You. Every shop we pass, you look in the window and fiddle with your hair.”
“I do not!”
“You do. I’ve seen you.”
“You’re imagining it.”
The next shop window they passed, Jack kept his eyes forward and his hands in his pockets, but a few minutes later, he was touching his hair again.
“Jack, your hair looks fine. Leave it alone.”
“I can’t, it’s sticking up!”
“Let me see.” Ianto stopped and turned Jack to face him, studying the uncooperative tuft of hair.
“See? It’s awful, everyone will laugh at me!”
“It’s not that bad. We’re only going out to dinner with friends, not attending a state occasion at Buckingham Palace. Nobody will even notice if you don’t keep drawing attention to it.”
“But I’ll know! It’s going to be bothering me all night!”
Ianto sighed. “Fine, just keep still and I’ll see what I can do.”
Jack did as he was told and a moment later…
Checking his reflection, Jack smiled. “Much better. How’d you do that?”
“I cut it off.”
