Ryo frowned at the plans Dee had drawn up for his expanded apartment, where the partition walls would be to divide the space, making the two bathrooms bigger, but leaving the already spacious bedrooms as they were, ripping out one kitchen and moving the other into a better position, so it had a window that opened.

It was a good layout, the bedrooms at opposite ends so that Bikky, when he was home from college, wouldn’t be able to overhear them at night, but… Even with the new kitchen being so much bigger than the old one, with a central island, plenty of storage cupboards, and ample space for cooker, refrigerator, freezer, and a dishwasher, plus a double sink, and counter space for microwave, toaster, and coffee machine, it left a wide-open central area that was a bit daunting.

They’d have part of it laid out as the lounge, with a couple of big sofas and an entertainment center, a new flatscreen TV, Dee’s music system, and shelves for books, CDs, and DVDs. Another area could be the dining room; a table big enough to seat six, for when they had guests over, would fit in easily, along with the sideboard from Ryo’s apartment, the one that had belonged to his parents. It had sentimental value, and Dee had already agreed to him bringing it.

“Dee?”

“Yo!” Dee paused his plastering and wandered over to his lover.

“How would you feel about partitioning off this section here, making it a home office or something?”

Dee studied the floor plan. “I thought that was where the dining table was gonna go.”

“It was, but it doesn’t make sense to put that the other end of the apartment from the kitchen. If we’re putting the kitchen here, we could turn it through ninety degrees, put a partition wall here, and have a breakfast bar between the kitchen and the dining room. Then the lounge would be here, in the central area, and that bit in the corner, between the guest bathroom and the outer wall, could be made into a separate room.”

“Y’know, you’re right, that would work way better. We could put a desk in there, with a computer, printer, all of that. Keep your camera equipment there, and my art stuff, call it our hobby room.”

“Yes!” Ryo nodded. “That sounds much better than a home office, although we can use it for that too, doing our taxes, keeping all our paperwork in one place where we can find it. A small filing cabinet in the corner, and shelves for our hobby stuff…”

Dee grinned, reaching for pencil and ruler, beginning to re-draft the plans. “We ever get tired of bein’ cops, maybe we could start a new career doin’ interior design. With my connections in the construction business, and your eye for detail, people would be queuin’ up to hire us.”

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

“Yeah, we should get our place finished before we start takin’ commissions.”

The End
