Dee had figured out pretty fast that his new partner was something of an airhead. That didn’t mean he was stupid, far from it; in fact, after working together for several months, Dee had come to the conclusion that Ryo was one of the smartest people he’d ever met. It was just that smart people tended to be a bit scatter-brained, probably due to thinking about too many things at once.
All that mental multi-tasking made Ryo a great detective. His brain never seemed to stop working, mulling over the facts of each case, analysing evidence, putting the tiniest little clues together, things that most people wouldn’t have even noticed. But while he was distracted by his thoughts, other things slipped by him unnoticed.
When Dee answered his cell phone, he wasn’t surprised to hear Ryo’s voice.
“Um, Dee? I’ve run into a bit of a problem…”
The faintly embarrassed tone of voice was familiar by now, and even without knowing what the problem was, Dee couldn’t keep from grinning. It was bound to be something he could tease his partner about later.
“What is it this time, genius?”
“The door shut, and somehow I’m locked in the file room.”
