JJ is probably the most flamboyant person Drake has ever known. At work he dresses far more fashionably than the rest of the squad, the rest of the precinct, and probably the whole of the NYPD, but although he’s always snappily and stylishly dressed, it’s not too overdone. Police detectives shouldn’t draw too much attention to themselves when they’re on the job, they’re supposed to dress conservatively, and JJ does, up to a point. Outside of work, it’s a different matter; then he really shines.


His outfits are always bang up to date. Whatever the in colors are for the season, JJ will wear them, and look amazing, coordinating and accessorising perfectly. Drake often feels like a drab little sparrow beside a Bird of Paradise, especially if they’re going to a club.


He’s trying to be more fashionable, for his boyfriend’s sake, and JJ has certainly treated him to plenty of really cool clothes, but Drake isn’t a flashy person. Where JJ can easily carry off shimmery fabrics, bright colours, even sequins and rhinestones if he chooses, that’s not Drake.


Still, Drake can’t deny the pride he feels walking into a club with JJ shimmering beside him, knowing all eyes are being drawn to his gorgeous boyfriend, and that half the guys in the place wish they could trade places with him. JJ might outshine him, but Drake isn’t jealous, because no matter how many people lust after his lover, drooling into their drinks, JJ only has eyes for him.
