Double Drabble: Voices

Title: Voices

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Jack, Ianto

Rating: G

Spoilers: Nada.

Summary: Jack hears voices on the wind.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

A/N: Double drabble. This one’s for red_day_dawning’s prompt ‘voices in the wind’.

There were voices in the wind. That was one reason Jack spent so much time in high places. He could hear them more clearly there.

He knew them all.

They were his family, long gone and yet unborn. The friends who’d passed on and the lovers he’d left before he had to watch them grow old and die while he remained the same.

They were the people he’d failed; those he couldn’t save and those who would have been better off if he hadn’t.

They were the ones whose lives he’d taken with his own hands. He remembered every one.

Through his childhood on Boeshane, his years with the Time Agency, and the centuries since Rose had saved and cursed him with a single act, he had loved and lost so many good people.

Through work and war he’d been responsible for more deaths than his conscience could bear. They haunted his dreams

But there remained one voice that would never become an echo on the wind; that of the man who stood beside him now, as unchanging as Jack himself.

He would be eternally grateful for the sacrifice Ianto had made in order to stay by his side forever.

The End

Um, is this a spoiler? :'D
Anyway, good fic!! Poor Jack :'( At least he's not alone anymore!
No spoilers, you already know Jack is immortal. (Ianto's immortality is my doing, because like many fans, I think he and Jack should be together throughout eternity.)

Well, okay, tiny spoiler for Doctor who - Parting of the Ways, the bit about Rose.

I almost always put in the header if there are spoilers, naming the episode or episodes there are spoilers for, so people can avoid being spoiled. I do write canon-based drabbles but I think I only have one canon-based fic - A Hero's Return. The others are the way I want things to be, and most are just written for fun. I'm known for my silly stories, lol!

Haha, alright then! Too bad immortal!Ianto isn't a real thing, though. :( Ianto and Jack belong together forever-ever! (Although I'm a big fan of Jack x Jack too)
There are quite a lot of immortal-Ianto fics out there, so many different varieties of Ianto - Time Lord, Dragon, empath, immortal, alien... We love our Ianto, so we're always finding new ways to ensure he never has to leave Jack =)
Wow, Ianto has quite an interesting life in the world of fanfiction, lol!
I'm watching Children of the Earth at the moment, and the scene where Ianto realizes that Jack will see him get old and die and just continue his eternal life afterwards made me soo sad! :(
That's why we choose to keep him alive by whatever means necessary. They deserve to have a happy eternity together!

My latest Fic of the Week choice has rewritten the first series in a wonderful way with Ianto as a very intriguing alien/human hybrid. He's adorable! Some of the story is pretty grim though, especially the first couple of chapters. It's so amazing the way people come up with so many different ideas, it's why I love Torchwood fanfiction so much =)
Love it!
Ianto and Jack, side by side, both immortal...
The way it always should be!! :D
Thank you!

Jack needs someone to stand beside him through eternity, someone to remind him that for all those he lost or failed to save, there are thousands of others whose lives he saved and improved. Jack tends to dwell on the worst parts of his life instead of remembedring all the good he's done, but Ianto remembers.
Oh, I loved that! Ianto will forever be at Jack's side, just where he's supposed to be.
He will. Jack doesn't deserve eternity alone. He needs someone with him to remind him of all the good he's done.

Thank you.
OMG! I love this a lot, J! and I'd kill to see this developing into a larger story ...
Oh .... I'm sure Ianto's voice would bring his Captain that sense of belonging and peace he needed so much.
Going to my memories ....
Awwww! Thank you!

I see this as being a little sequel to Fixed Points. Ianto is newly immortal and standing with Jack on a roof, looking out over Cardiff as Jack thinks of everyone he's lost, sort of says goodbye to all that before focusing on the one he's gained to walk alongside him throughout time. =)
This is so beautiful! I imagined it something like this, but unformed - it's like you read my mind. So beautiful. I love it.
Thank you, I'm so glad I captured what you wanted!
This was really beautiful but sad as well.
Thank you!

Yeah, it's sad but I think the end is hopeful. Everything will be better now that Jack can have Ianto with him forever.
Lovely; this goes with the Library story
Thank you!

Yes, it does rather. It's also like a follow-up to my fic Fixed Points, I see it as being set just after that with Jack and Ianto on a roof and Jack sort of letting go of the voices from his past, they won't haunt him the way they did now he has someone to walk through the future with him, someone he never has to lose.
I love this. Great combination of sad and sweet.
Thank you!

I like the way this one turned out. It was going to be very melancholy, but then I got the idea for the second part and I think that finishes it off right.
*sniffle* Aw, that was beautiful. Jack & Ianto forever! <3
Just as it SHOULD be!

Thank you!
I'm glad that Ianto can be there by his side, makes Jack's long life a lot more bearable (and more fun etc.) :) <3<3
They deserve to stay together, I think they can help esch other a lot and eternity won't deem so long with someone to walk beside.

Thank you!

Love it. But you made me want to cry.
Awwww, don't cry! It's a happy ending, Jack gets to keep his Ianto forever, they'll walk through eternity hand in hand. Or, knowing them, probably shag their way through eternity ;)

Thank you!
and it's a good choice for us.
It's the way it should be. They'll both have a happy life if they're together.

Thank you.
