A/N: Double drabble.
The caverns were pitch dark inside, which Jack had been expecting. For one thing, he and the team were out in the middle of nowhere on an overcast and therefore starless, moonless night, and for another, he’d known in advance that nothing electrical was going to work.
Tosh had warned him about that before they’d left the Hub; it seemed whatever had taken refuge way out here had some way of nullifying technology. Their PDAs, their phones, and their scanners had all given up the ghost when they were still ten yards from the entrance to the cave system, and by the time they were right outside, their torches had flickered and gone out too.
It was fine though, nothing to worry about, because Jack had come prepared. Who needed torches? He’d had Ianto ransack the archives for oil lamps, and candle lanterns. They’d have all the illumination they’d need; he’d even thought to stash a few spare candles in his coat pockets in case of emergencies. All he and his team had to do was light their lamps…
There was just one tiny problem, hardly worth mentioning, an insignificant little oversight.
“Um, do any of you have any matches?”
