Drabble: A Bit Tied Up? - Sequel to ‘Birdsong’

Title: A Bit Tied Up? - Sequel to ‘Birdsong’

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Jack, Ianto, Team implied

Rating: G

Spoilers: Nada.

Summary: Ianto’s missing, so Jack goes in search of him.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

A/N: For everyone who wondered how Ianto got tied up and what Jack would do when he found him. Probably not what you were expecting, sorry! This ended up as a triple drabble.

The aliens had been rounded up and sent on their way, their contraband confiscated; they wouldn’t be back. It had been a surprisingly successful mission, everything had gone smoothly, except for one thing; Ianto seemed to be missing. He’d been sent to the other side of the copse to prevent the aliens slipping out that way, had contacted Jack to say he was in position, but hadn’t been heard from since. Sending the rest of the team back to the SUV, Jack set off in search of his missing Welshman.

Twenty minutes later, he rounded a hedge and there was Ianto, stretched out on his back in the sunshine, looking quite peaceful, considering.

“Ianto?”

“Jack! Finally! Do you have any idea how long I’ve been lying here?”

“Not really. What exactly are you doing? We could’ve used your help.”

“What am I doing? What does it look like I’m doing? The aliens tied me up!”

“Ah. Well, no, actually they didn’t.”

“What are you talking about? Of course they…” Ianto trailed off as he realised something.

“Oh. That’s weird. I was tied up a minute ago.”

“Um, no, you weren’t. You only thought you were. That’s interesting.” Jack sat down beside him as Ianto sat up.

“Why’s it interesting?”

“Those particular aliens have some rudimentary telepathic powers, just enough to project a pretty convincing illusion. But it only works if the target has psychic abilities. I can see I’m going to have to teach you to block telepathic projections.”

“I’m psychic?”

Jack nodded.

“What about the rest of the team?”

“Oh, they don’t need training. Not a trace of psychic ability in any of them. I didn’t think you had either, but I guess I was wrong!” Jack beamed at Ianto proudly. “You never cease to surprise me, Mr Jones!”

The End

What an interesting explanation ! I'm sure Jack will be happy to do some investigation 😉
Ianto will be getting from intensive training from Jack on how to block despite distractions, lol!

Thank you!
Oh dear, he didn't have to lay there after all! But Jack was impressed...if only in a different way than he could have been! *laughs*
Ianto feels rather silly, but it really wasn't his fault. Jack will teach him to block so he won't get caught out in future. I rather think Jack is relishing the idea of training Ianto!

Thank you!
Mm, yeah. Sure, Ianto is happy to learn psychic techniques--just one more way for Jack to molest him on the job.

Then again, he doesn't seem to mind too much usually...
I think he'll thoroughly enjoy his 'training'. He's in good hands ;)

Thank you!
I wonder if all Jack's training follows the same criteria. I agree with you that his training will probably revolve around "performing while distracted". That could be interesting!
Well, it would be no good if he could only black when he's not being distracted! It's like Jack's firearms training techniques - if they can still hit what they're aiming at while Jack's hands are in inappropriate places, then other distractions won't even register.

Thank you!

Aah, that was a neat twist :)
It was a twist that just popped into my head when I thought about Jack going to untie him, but I think the idea works better than if he'd really been tied up!

Thank you!
well just another part of Iantos charm.

Great drabble.
There's more to Ianto Jones than meets the eye!

Thank you.
Oh wow! I didn't see that coming. So the ropes were just a psychic projection--what an interesting phenomenon!

Looks like Ianto has a fascinating new adventure ahead, learning to use his powers!
I didn't know that was going to happen either. When I wrote the first one a few months back (I built up a stock to fill in when there weren't drabble prompts) they were real ropes. It was only when I posted Birdsong and people started speculating on whether Jack would untie him immediately or not that I started thinking. If his hands were tied in front of him, he could probably untie his feet and find Jack and the others. if they were tied behind him, how could he lie so comfortably on his back? It made me wonder, what if he only THOUGHT he was immobilised, was so convinced of it that it never occurred to him to try to get free? So I wrote a sequel.

Jack will thoroughly enjoy teaching Ianto and exploring the extent of his abilities.

Thank you!
Yes, Jack. Ianto is more than just a pretty face. Lisa's/cyberwoman should have taught you that.

Class is going to be a disaster with Jack as a teacher. But hopefully Ianto will learn... something. :)

Looking forward for more!
I think Jack is actually a very good teacher, he just has unorthodox methods, but they work. I'm sure all the Torchwood team are excellent marksmen, no matter what distractions they're faced with. If you can shoot straight while Jack is putting his hands in inappropriate places, nothing is going to phase you!

Thank you!
Wow! Talk about a mind in knots! These guys are good but Ianto is full of surprises :D This one is unusual; don't think I've ever seen this type of telepathic projection and it's terrific. Well done!
If you can get into someone's head, it should be possible to plant an idea or an illusion that's very convincing - as long as the person affected doesn't think about it. By making Ianto believe that he'd been captured and tied up, and was therefore completely helpless, they neatly stopped him from checking. It took someone else actually TELLING him he wasn't tied up to break the illusion. Now Ianto just needs to learn that trick himself. Imagine how useful it would be to get into the mind of an attacking Weevil and say "I'm not here," or the mind of a blowfish with a gun, telling it "your gun weighs a ton." It wouldn't be able to even hold the gun, never mind fire it.

Thank you!
Ah, that's an interesting wrinkle! I'm sure Jack's eager to 'explore' this with Ianto some more... ;)
I'm sure they'll enjoy exploring the extents of Ianto's newly discovered abilities!

Thank you!
Ooh psychic Ianto...
The training is going to be fun! :-)
If I ever get around to writing it...

It seemed more interesting than just having Ianto literally tied up!

Thank you!
Oh I don't know.... I'm sure Jack would enjoy having Ianto literally tied up.... ;-)
He would, but it's been done so many times, so I went with something a bit different that has other intriguing possibilities!
it was not a game !!
OK
I love it.
Thank you!

Now Ianto has newly discovered abilities to explore and learn about!
