Triple Drabble: Earnshaw Strikes Again

Title: Earnshaw Strikes Again

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Jack, Owen, Team, OMC Perry Earnshaw

Rating: G

Spoilers: Nada.

Summary: Some people are magnets for trouble; others just attract the weird.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

A/N: For the prompt ‘Earnshaw Strikes Again’, one of the prompts I didn’t get around to using for tw100’s challenge 288 last year. I’ve dug them out again to supplement the prompts I got from my f-list, just because there are still loads I wanted to use. This one ended up as a triple drabble.

A/N2: I said I wanted to post 250 drabbles this year – well, here it is, number 250! Not that I have any plans on stopping now, I just thought people might like to know.

Perry Earnshaw had become a minor nuisance to Torchwood since he’d first arrived in Cardiff three years earlier. It wasn’t that he was a bad person; he just seemed to be a magnet for anything alien in his vicinity.

Even that wouldn’t have been so bad if he hadn’t also been impossible to Retcon. They’d tried the first couple of times, but it just didn’t take. The only solution each time was to convince him that he didn’t see what he thought he saw.

On the plus side, he wasn’t terribly bright and seemed to believe anything he was told.

So, when Ianto informed him that there were worrying readings coming from Earnshaw’s home, which Torchwood kept under permanent surveillance, for obvious reasons, Jack wasn’t too concerned.

That lasted until the team arrived at Earnshaw’s modest little cottage and saw what was causing the latest disturbance.

There was a small spaceship parked in his back garden, surrounded by fuzzy aliens that resembled dish mops on legs. Perry was sitting cross-legged on the lawn, chatting to them.

Owen groaned.

“The curse of Earnshaw strikes again. How do we handle this?”

Perry looked up and smiled.

“Hi, guys! Look what I found!”

The aliens had been pulled off course by the Rift and needed some assistance re-calibrating their systems to compensate for the distortion effect it caused. Tosh was happy to help while Perry served tea and biscuits to everyone.

“Mr Earnshaw, about what you’ve seen here…” Jack started.

Perry just waved his hand dismissively.

“Don’t worry about it, they’re just aliens. Get a lot of them here in Cardiff, more than where I used to live. They’re no trouble. Anything I should know?”

“Uh, no. Just don’t tell anyone.”

“No point, nobody would believe me. It’s our secret.”

And he winked.

The End

Comments

It would definitely hard to convince him he didn't really see the aliens he'd been visiting with who'd parked their spaceship in his backyard. I think they're safe though. He's right that no one would believe him.
Perry's not interested in drawing attention to himself anyway, he came to Cardiff looking for a quiet life. He finds the aliens who drop by quite pleasant visitors. He may well become one of Torchwood's occasional informers, drawing their attention to things that might require investigation.

Thank you!
Maybe they dont have as much of a problem with him as they thought.

grat drabble.
It would appear that Perry knows more than they thought he did! ah well, they can always use eyes around Cardiff to report on any unusual occurrences that might require investigation!

Thank you!
LOL! I know it's Torchwood's mission to protect humanity from alien life--including all knowledge of same. But it appears that there are some people that can take it all in stride!

I imagine a lot of people in Cardiff might be little more open to the idea than Torchwood thinks--they see so many weird things going on, after all. It might actually be a relief to have such an explanation.
There are probably a lot of people who would take it in their stride, but Torchwood can't know in advance who would take it well and who wouldn't so they have to assume the worst. Perry is an exception, they can't retcon him anyway.

Thank you!
I forgot to add, congratulations on reaching your yearly goal! And it's only September! That is quite an amazing achievement. :)
I'm flabbergasted! I really thought I was aiming quite high, but I could post another hundred this year if I'm lucky! And I'm only counting the Torchwood drabbles, not the 17 or so I've posted for FAKE!

*Sits in corner, boggling*

(Got the plumber in fixing a leak - he's a sci-fi fan and an astronomy geek *grins*)
I like this Perry, he seems quite comfortable around aliens and not trying to gain anything form them or for them.
He has no agenda, no ulterior motives. He's a simple man who came to Cardiff looking for a simple life. He likes the aliens he's met so far and they've been no trouble, so he's perfectly happy to accept them.

Thank you!
Haha! That is so funny. :)
Perry is taking things remarkably well, lol!

Thank you!
Hee, that's hilarious!
Thank you! People can be surprising!
Where did he used to live?
Milton Keynes. It's where a lot of naturalised aliens live. Torchwood settles them there because it's the last place you'd think to look for an alien, lol!

Thank you!
Methinks Mr. E has seen far more than Torchwood thinks and isn't about to let anyone else know about it :D
He's certainly seem more than his fair share of weirdness! He doesn't want to draw attention to himself though so he's happy to keep quiet about it all. He's not a security risk!

Thank you!
Hehe.
He's obviously brighter than they gave him credit for :-)
Oh yes, quite bright but very laid back and accepting, as well as completely at home with aliens. He'll probably end up being one of Torchwood's outside assets, fostering alien creatures and providing emergency accommodation for alien visitors.

Thank you!
