Drabble: Hell On Earth

Title: Hell On Earth

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Ianto, mentions Lisa

Rating: PG-15

Written For: Challenge 319 – Stationery/Stationary at tw100

Spoilers: Cyberwoman.

Summary: Ianto will use any means possible to avoid detection during the Battle of Canary Wharf.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

Unmoving, still as death, motionless, Ianto shut his eyes and prayed to a God he wasn’t sure he believed in anymore. Hell had come to earth, complete with blood and flames and the screaming of souls in torment.

The air stank of smoke and burning flesh, the stench almost choking him and he tried not to breathe as heavy metallic footsteps approached his hiding place. By some miracle, they passed by, the metal monsters apparently unaware that an unconverted, living human lay among the bodies of the slaughtered.

As the robots departed, he finally moved. He had to find Lisa.

The End

That had to have been so terrifying for him. I don't know that I could have made myself lay there as they came closer. I think I'd have panicked and given myself away.
Ianto screwed up all his courage and just thought about Lisa. I know I couldn't have stayed still like that with a threat so close.

Thank you!
Such a harrowing piece.

great work.
It was rather harrowing to write too! Sometimes these dark ideas sneak up on me. I prefer the light and fluffy ones, but I have to write what my brain gives me, lol!

Thank you!
Those 2 episodes were on this week and I am again amazed at how the hell he escaped that with Lisa in that unit. Then Donna's ep followed showing HC Clements and its connection to Torchwood. I have to admit, OCD never looked so good or frightening as when Cyberwoman Yvonne took out a few of those things ...and I understand why Jack hated the London office.

You really captured all that in this drabble...
Thank you. It really was hell on earth, it's a miracle Ianto got out, and managed to liberate not only Lisa but a Conversion Unit!

Jack had very good reasons to hate and distrust Torchwood One.
That must've been really terrifying... and to think how it kept going in some way until Lisa died :*(
Ianto was so single-minded and determined to save her, whatever it took. I think that's all that kept him going through the battle itself and the aftermath. Saving Lisa was his sole purpose, his motivation to get up every morning.

Thank you!
Wow!
Thank you!

It's a pretty bleak drabble, but sometimes that just happens.
It's not your usual style, but it's all awesomeness. You captured the darkness perfectly.
Thank you! I'm finding myself trying more new things since I joined some other challenge communities. It's good to stretch the writing muscles I guess!
*shudders* That's one of the best imaginings I've ever read about Ianto during the Battle. Well done.
Thank you!

It wasn't the most cheerful thing to write, but I needed to write it.
*wibble*
*wibbles back*
People sometimes forget that Ianto lived through this; that he probably had to do some awful things to survive; that he should probably be certifiable after everything he's seen. They forget how strong he is. You don't. He did what he had to do to survive, to help Lisa.

This is chilling and very evocative, and I can't come up with an adjective that describes my, um, 'enjoyment', for lack of a better word.
Thank you!

Ianto had only one thing on his mind, getting to Lisa and saving her. He would have done whatever it took to avoid detection and it would have been beyond awful. No wonder he has nightmares.
