Drabble: Final Chance

Title: Final Chance

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Ianto, mentions Jack

Rating: G

Written For: Challenge 255 – Sink or Swim at tw100

Spoilers: Fragments

Summary: Getting a job with Torchwood Three proves difficult.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or any of the characters.

A/N: I wrote this at practically the same time as my friend timelordshines wrote her drabble Last Chance  – in fact when I wrote it, I gave it the same title, I think we must be sharing the same brain. Anyway, she posted hers first so I changed my title, although part of me wanted to call it Last Chance: The Prequel because they just fit together so well!

He’d stalked Harkness for weeks, waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. Rescued him from a weevil and got the brush off.

Stalked him some more, offered him coffee, which obviously met with his approval. Got the brush off again. What did it take to impress the guy? Something different, something new.

When he stumbled across the Pterodactyl, managed to lure it into an empty warehouse using chocolate, he knew it was his final chance because he’d never find something to top this!

Waiting by the road in the rain, he steeled himself. This was it. Sink or swim.

The End

Love it! <3<3 He's so right--if a Pterodactyl doesn't get Jack's attention, nothing will. (Though wearing the suit was a stroke of genius and surely didn't' hurt!)

It's so funny how you and Timelordshines both took the prompt in such similar ways. Something similar happened with me and Captain91 and the "Moving Mountains" challenge. So weird to see the idea you're still hashing out appear in the comm posted by someone else! LOL.
It was a surprise, and a delightful one, especially because they are each half of the same scene - I thought that was pretty amazing!

Even Jack couldn't resist the chance of catching pterodactyl! It was a real stroke of luck that Ianto found her, otherwise he might never have got the job!

I loved the scene and felt it fitted the prompt, but although I wrote them back to back, I got the other drabble finished first so it was posted first. I now have a third drabble for the prompt which I intend to post on Sunday. Drabbles are taking over my brain! =S

Thank you =)
Myfanwy is far wiser than people give her credit for. I don't think she could have been captured if she hadn't cooperated at least a bit, and she let the right people capture her.

Thank you =)
Yes Jack was difficult in the beginning. Great Drabble. Or was jack just playing hard to get.
Jack was just disinclined to hire someone from Torchwood One, but he reconsidered - anyone who could find him a pteradactyl and then help him catch it while looking great in a suit was clearly worth taking a chance on. After all, even in Torchwood that's not something that happens every day!

Thanks, Glad you liked it!
Excellent use of the prompt!
Thank you, I'm really pleased with this one - have you read the one by timelordshines ? It practically follows on from this and covers the rest of that scene! She manages to condense the entire warehouse scene into just 100 word!
Yay you posted it :-)
Love it!
Great minds think alike obviously hehe.
Thanks for linking mine in. Just going to go edit mine to include a link to yours now that it is up, since they really are two parts of the same story :-)
Thanks! I sent one of my ff.net friends over to read yours and she loved it too!

I read them both together last night - anyone would think we'd sat down together and planned it! It's what the word Serendipity was invented for!
Ianto's perseverance got finally good results!
You are an expert in writing drabbles by now, J!!! keep the good work!
Thank you! Ianto is stubbon and resourceful, who else would bribe as pteradactyl with chocolate?

I still think of myself as a learner drabbler, I fight the word count every time and have to spend ages pruning and re-phrasing things, but I'm enjoying it and it means I have something to post while I'm working on the longer stories. I just hope tw100 keeps handing out prompts that inspire me to write something. I've managed 2 a week for the past 4 weeks, I'm just waiting for the day when I can't even think of ONE, lol!
Loved it!!!
Excellent, my dear!!!
Thank you, dear Ani! *hugs back*
Really good drabble.
Thank you - it's one of my favourites that I've written.

Will be posting an Owen one later today. I hope.
Gives new meaning to "sink or swim"! How many couples can say they were matched up by a dinosaur? *hee*
Very true! Other animals, yes, but most people seem to be under the mistaken impression that dinosaurs are extinct! 0.0

Thank you, glad you liked it!
