The Oncoming Coat

Drabble: Water

Title: Water

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Jack, Gwen, Ianto.

Rating: G

Written For: Challenge 387: Drink at tw100

Spoilers: Nada.

Summary: There’s more to Jack’s water habit than mere hydration!

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

“Why do you almost always drink water when we go to the pub?” Gwen asked, puzzled.

Jack shrugged. “It’s important to stay hydrated,” he explained. “Especially in our business, with all the running around. Alcohol dehydrates. You should drink more water, Gwen Cooper!”

“That’s not the whole story though, is it,” Ianto commented later, when it was just the two of them.

“No. Where I grew up, it was very dry, almost a desert; we had the ocean on our doorstep, but fresh water was scarce and essential to our survival. I still marvel at how plentiful it is here.”

Interesting point of view and a very plausible explanation for Jack's habit.

I've never thought of it this way, but now it gives me a bit of a different perspective. :)
Thank you! I think part of it might also be that his healing ability won't let him get drunk, but I couldn't fit that into the word count!

Thank you!
I wuppose it makes sense. Water is a luxury to Jack.

Great drabble.
Luxury! Yes! Couldn't think of that word when I was writing the drabble *headdesk*

Thank you!
Reminds us where Jack came from. Also I think by now he realises that overindulgence is risky, and won't take chances with his team

I'm not sure Jack's 'condition' would even let him get drunk for long. He'd probably have to drink a lot of alcohol very fast for it to have much effect.

Thank you!
beautiful logical explanation.

Personally, I thought it was after years of heavy drinking when he discovered he could not die, was stuck on Earth and unfortunately "prisoner" TW ... He became hyper sober when he s' was resumed.

I prefer your explanation!!
Either explanation is equally good!

Thank you!
