Drabble: Glass Half Full

Title: Glass Half Full

Author: badly_knitted

Characters: Jack, Ianto.

Rating: G

Written For: Challenge 396: Bottle at tw100

Spoilers: Nada.

Summary: Ianto and Jack are celebrating.

Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood, or the characters.

The bottle of wine was almost empty; Jack picked it up, topping off both their glasses.

“We’ve got this far; might as well finish it!”

“My thoughts exactly,” Ianto agreed, lifting his glass and clinking it against Jack’s. “To us, and the future!”

“To us,” Jack smiled. “The beginning of forever!”

Ianto looked at his glass. “Even after half a bottle of wine I’m barely tipsy.”

“One of the downsides of being immortal. Getting drunk is very difficult.”

“On the bright side, at least we won’t have hangovers tomorrow.”

“That’s my Ianto, always a glass-half-full kind of guy!” Jack grinned.

The End

Good way to look at it! ^.^ Hangovers do not sound like a ball of fun.
I've never had one so I don't really know, but they sure as hell don't sound pleasant. Never been drunk in my life. Used to enjoy a glass of wine, sherry or cider way back in my teens, but I'm teetotal now. Which is misleading since I can't drink tea =(

Thank you!
I've never had any alcohol that wasn't in cough syrup. I even had to write a hangover fic, and I'm not sure if I got it or not, due to lack of experience, lol!

Very welcome!
Alcohol is fine in small doses but I've never seen the point in getting drunk. How is that fun? I'll never understand. Dad served up wine on Sundays from when I was about 13 or so. I think because of that, alcohol never seemed a big deal to me. I was having a small sherry at Christmas before that. By small, I mean hardly more than a few sips. I have no problem not drinking now, I've got no desire to.
I must be a very unusual person; I made a promise to myself when I was six to never touch alcohol, nicotine, etc., and I've stuck to that. I don't even curse, except here online. No wonder I think I'm boring!
That sounds sensible to me. Both my parents smoked, and my sister used to steal mum's cigarettes and smoke them. I was adamant from the start that I would never smoke and I never have. I cuss more than I did when I was younger (to myself, not in public) never did when I was a kid because I'd get in trouble with mum and dad. I don't like TV shows with a lot of swearing in them, that's a sure way to make me switch off. A bit is okay if it's character, but when it's wall to wall... nope!
I'm always amazed at what your shows can get away with that just won't fly over here unless it's on a Pay Per View channel. We bleep out a lot of the swear words; nothing stronger than "hell" or "damn" or "crap" will really be allowed (when 'Dalek' first aired over here, they even cut out the "God" when Van Statten said "God damn it"; we can't say that over here on TV). I remember Game Show Network used to air this Australian game show (so apparently they can get away with everything you guys get away with) that kept having "shit" not get bleeped out. They temporarily pulled it, then reaired it with the "shit"s bleeped, so somebody probably complained. Then they finally stopped airing it outright, which was fine by me, just because the show was really annoying.
I think it was called True Blood, an American vampire series, I watched halfway though the first episode but there was just so much swearing I had to switch off. There's quite a lot in some British shows but I don't watch all that much British TV. It's too bleak.
Ianto is always an optimist.

great drabble.
Well, most of the time. I think with Lisa, he HAD to believe things would work out and maybe that made him start trying to be optimistic.

Thank you!
Glorious. Celebration of eternal togetherness. Only hangover I had was after taking prescribed medication. Had been warned to avoid alcohol, but doc didn't mention cheese which I ate at supper. Ouch! Bounced off the walls going upstairs to bed
Prescription meds can have weird effects when mixed with other things, and we're al different so what affects one might not affect someone else. Who would have thought you could get a hangover from cheese?

I've never been hungover or even drunk. Tranquilizer withdrawal was bad enough!

Yes, they're just starting eternity together so they've got a lot to celebrate!

Thank you!
this is the best way to see things.
it is not always easy to do but it's much better for morale!
Ianto can't help but feel positive about the future now he knows he'll be sharing it with Jack!

Thank you!
